Police nab bank official for diverting Rs 1.5 cr fund

City police today nabbed a Probationary Officer (PO) of Central Bank of India, Dwarka Nagar branch here. Police arrested PO Abhayanand Paswan and recovered Rs 1.50 crore cash from him on a complaint of another senior bank official. Addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Police J Purnachandra Rao informed that Assistant General Manager of Central Bank of India, Dwarka Nagar branch in the city G Venkata Subba Rao had lodged a complaint against Paswan of the same branch on June 29 alleging his involvement of illegal diversion of Rs 1.50 crore of money into his personal bank account recently. City police officials appointed a special team to track down the accused. The accused went on sick leave from June 27 and began working in a private bank in Jharkhand. The fraud to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore was detected after an internal audit was conducted by the bank officials on June 29.

Abhayanand deposited some amount in the bank while partial amount was with his friend. He began drawing from the ATM. The bank officials succeeded in tracing the transactions of the accused who withdrew money from various centres in the city, the police official said. The special team of police was sent to Odisha after the complaint. He said based on the CCTV footage inside the bank they easily nabbed the accused in the case and recovered the money. UNI
