Police in mufti could have damaged statues

Hyderabad,March 11: When asked about agitators damaging the statues of social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam and others, Prof. Kodandaram has alleged that police in mufti could have damaged the statues. He also said that the people were angry that the statues of Telangana leaders were not erected on the Tank Bund. He regretted that the statues of great people were defaced. He said whatever be the reason, such acts could not be supported. It is neither the aim nor the nature of the Telangana agitation to insult such history creators, he asserted.

Reiterating that police harassment was responsible for people losing their temper, he said the government and the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, should take the entire responsibility for what happened during the Million Mrch.

When asked about the attacks on the media, he said he was not aware of it and would enquire into these complaints. He said if media was attacked, it was wrong. He also alleged that police in mufti could be responsible for these attacks. He said that police have been indulging in such activities to send wrong signals to the people and water down the Telangana agitation.
