Ambala(Har), July 11: Agitated residents of flood-hit Kakru village today blocked Ambala-Chandigarh road near here to protest “negligence” by authorities in carrying out relief operations, forcing police to resort to mild lathi charge.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Locals gathered on the Ambala-Chandigarh road this noon, alleging that no officials had visited the village where many low-lying areas remained submerged in water due to the recent heavy monsoon rains, police said.
Senior police officers including DSP Raj Kumar Walia and Baldev Nagar police station SHO Sheetal Singh reached the spot and asked the agitators to remove the blockade.
The mob refused and pelted stones at the police party which then resorted to mild lathicharge, they said.
However, villagers claimed that they were protesting in a peaceful manner.
