Hyderabad, September 18: An inspector of Cyberabad commissionarate, while preventing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers, who tried to hoist the national flag on subregistrar’s office at Kushaiguda on the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day, allegedly misbehaved with a woman ABVP activist, a B Tech student today.
The incident sparked protests by the ABVP and BJP leaders and also women organisations prompting Cyberabad police commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy to transfer the inspector T Manohar Reddy. The inspector is likely to be suspended.
It all started when a group of ABVP activists, including some girls, reached the subregistrar’s office around 11 a.m with an intention to hoist the national flag on the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day. Kushaiguda police inspector T Manohar Reddy while preventing the girls from entering the premises of subregistrar office, physically pushed her aside though women police were around.
This incident sparked widespread protests from all sections of society. As news about the incident spread and the inspector being caught in the footage of all the news channels, a large number of ABVP students gathered in front of Kushaiguda police station demanding suspension of Manohar Reddy and also a subinspector of police, Narender Reddy, who also used force while arresting the activists.
BJP state president G Kishan Reddy also joined the agitation and demanded action against the inspector and the SI. ABVP state secretary Kadiam Raju said that the behaviour of inspector was highly objectionable.
The students agitation continued till late in the night even as it was raining, and deputy commissioner of police (Alwal) M Shiva Prasad sent a report to the Cyberabad police commissioner recommending suspension of the inspector. Acting on the report, the Commissioner transferred Manohar Reddy and asked him to report to the Commissionerate immediately. He was replaced by Ravinder, who is presently posted in the secial branch wing of the Cyberabad police.
Police officials said Manohar Reddy may e suspended for his objectionable act. Meanwhile, the transfer of the inspector did not cool the tempers of the agitating ABVP activists and the BJP legislator who are on a dharna in front of the police station till last reports came in. They were demanding the suspension of Manohar Reddy.
