A special court here today convicted a Senior Police Inspector for accepting a bribe of Rs 80,00 from a man for not registering a serious case against the latter.
According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Senior PI Somnath Gughe, attached to the Park Site police station in
the city, was convicted in this case.
One Dinesh Rajbarge had a number of criminal cases registered against him between 2005 and 2007. His friend
Mahendra Singh Chouhan was helping Rajbarge fight these cases in court.
In June 2010, Ghuge demanded Rs 1 lakh from Rajbarge and also threatened that if the amount was not paid, he
(Rajbarge) would be booked in a serious case and his entire family would also be arrested.
On June 24, 2010, Singh filed a case against Ghuge in the ACB and a trap was laid on the same day, where Ghuge was
arrested while accepting bribe from Rajbarge at a hotel in suburban Chembur.
During the trial, special public prosecutor Deepak Laddhe examined four witnesses to prove the case against
Ghuge.
The court sentenced Gughe for two years of imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000.
Gughe was immediately released on bail.
