Police harassing YSRC cadre: Bajireddy

YSR Congress Party today demanded stern action against police officials responsible for severely beating up party activists belonging to Ibrahimpatnam and sending them to jail on false charges. Nine party activists were picked up on May 27 night when YSRC Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was arrested and were severely beaten up before being sent to Cheralapalli Jail, Party Spokesman Bajireddy Goverdhan alleged adding no official note was issued about any such arrest. He claimed, in a press note,the activists held dharna near Ibrahimpatnam and went to sleep at the party office from where they were picked at 0230 hrs by in-charge ACP who beat them up severely saying they were responsible for the death of a RTC bus driver. However, they were sent to jail under Preventive Detention Act on a 15-day remand.

The police did not reveal details of arrest of the party activists.

He said the party would move the court and the Human Rights Commission on the police action. UNI
