Police foil students march to Assembly

Scores of students and their leaders were arrested when they attempted to barge into the Assembly on Friday protesting against the Private Universities Bill.

Eight Leftist students organizations had given a call for “Chalo Assembly” opposing the Private Universities Bill. The students, as planned, marched in a procession from Nizam College and tried to proceed towards the Assembly. However, the police, who made elaborate security arrangements, prevented them from surging forward.

The slogan shouting students then squatted on the road and refused to move out despite the repeated warnings by the police. The police then bodily lifted the protesting students and whisked them away in police vehicles. (NSS)
