Police foil DSC-2008 qualified candidates’ dharna

Hyderabad, April 23: DSC-2008 qualified candidates made a vain bid to stage a protest outside the Secretariat here on Thursday demanding filling of all posts notified for the teachers’ recruitment test. Moments of tension prevails as heavy deployment of police was made in and around the Secretariat to prevent the protesters entering the complex as the Cabinet meeting was in progress.

A total of 73 activists of Telugu Yuvatha, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Telugu Nadu Students’ Forum (TNSF), who led the protest under the aegis of Youth Federations’ Joint Action Committee, and DSC qualifiers were arrested when they were moving towards Secretariat. They were later released on personal surety. Qualified candidates of DSC-2008 first gathered at Indira Park and staged a dharna there, but on learning that Cabinet meeting was scheduled in Secretariat they immediately decided to march to Secretariat to get the issue resolved. However, when the protesters were approaching B.R. Ambedkar statue on the Tank Bund they were obstructed by the police.

In a statement, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned the arrests and said instead of resolving the problems of unemployed youth the government was using its ruthless power on them. He criticised the government for claiming non-existence of 12,000 Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) posts now, after notifying them for the entrance test.
