Police foil attempt to sell 554 bottles of alcohol

Dubai,June 08: The tourist security department of Dubai Police foiled an attempt of two Asians to sell 554 bottles of alcohol.

Major Mohamed Rashid Al Muhairi, director of the department said the suspect refused to obey the police officials who asked them to stop going around in the sandy areas while trying to reach a resort in order to sell the contraband.

He said a police official suspected the Landcruiser which did not have the name of a company and was carrying heavy loads. The suspects tried to escape from the police official who chased them for an hour till they were arrested in the Al Aweer desert area after their vehicle got stuck in the sand.

The police arrested the men who came to Dubai on visit visas regularly. The men confessed to trading in alcohol. They said that they brought it from a hotel in the northern emirate and sold it at safari trips and smuggled it a company area nearby and sold it prices 50 per cent over the normal price.

Maj. Muhairi said the tourist security department has nine police patrols which tour the land or maritime locations.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Ibrahim Abdulla said the department arrested two infiltrators who were found moving in Jumeirah where they carried out their business with people who wanted to dig wells in their farms.

The undercover police told them that he would take them to his farm and instead he brought them to the police department where they confessed that they illegally entered the UAE.
