Hooghly (WB), December 09: The police today fired in the air to disperse members of CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress- affiliated unions who clashed during student elections at a college in West Bengal’s Hooghly district.
Police fired in the air to bring the situation under control after the groups attacked each other by hurling bombs during elections at the Champadanga Rabindra Mahavidalaya college, Hooghly Superintendent of Police Satyajit Bandhopadhay said.
Two Kolkata-bound government buses were set ablaze by the activists on the road before the college, he said.
SFI members set the Trinamool Congress student office on fire, while the Trinamool members vandalised that of the marxists, he said.
The SP said five persons were injured while making bombs at Kholdighirui village last night. Three of them were admitted to hospital.
