Kuala Lumpur, January 14: Police say surgeons removed 137 drug capsules from the stomach of an Iranian who suffered severe abdominal pain while trying to smuggle the drugs into Malaysia.
A district police official said the man told officials he fell ill after his plane landed at Malaysia’s budget carrier airport south of Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
The official said the man remained hospitalised Friday after doctors removed methamphetamine capsules weighing a total of 1.7 pounds (765 grams). The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to make public statements.
He had no details about where the 52-year-old man had arrived from. The official said the man was being investigated for drug trafficking, which is punishable by hanging under Malaysian law.
