Police detains 50 protesters in City

Hyderabad, October 22: About 50 protesters who tried to storm into the state secretariat demanding early appointment of teachers, were taken into custody by the police here today.

Over 200 protesters (B. Ed candidates), who were selected for teachers post by the District Selection Committee (DSC) in 2008 across the state, held a protest in front of the secretariat in support of their demands including completion of counselling process for the teachers posts.

The protesters, who raised anti-government slogans, alleged that the government was adopting delaying tactics in appointment of teachers. The protesters also tried to climb the main gate of the secretariat, but were prevented from doing so, police said.

Meanwhile, the police also forcibly lifted five B.Ed candidates who were on an indefinite fast for the past three days from the hunger camp near Indira Park even as the DSC- 2008 selected candidates alleged that the government was extending step-motherly treatment towards them.
