Police cracking down on human traficking

Hyderabad, December 30: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) R R Girish Kumar today said the state police had taken the lead in curbing human traficking by arresting 360 offenders and rescuing 236 victims, including nine minors in the state and outside.

Addressing a press conferene along with Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A K Khan here, he said 182 cases of traficking were registered upto November this year. He said 182 customers were also arrested. He said the police had secured conviction for 65 trafickers in 16 cases and they were awarded imprisonment of four years to 14 years in a special drive taken up by the AP police.

”Andhra Pradesh is the only state police organisation in the entire Europe and Asia, which has been awarded Webber Seavey International Association of Chiefs of Police Award for the year 2009 for being the best police organisation in curbing human traficking,” he claimed.
