Hyderabad, September 12: City Police Commissioner AK Khan on Sunday thanked the general public for their cooperation in ensuring the peaceful conduct of final Ganesh immersion procession in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Addressing a press conference late in the evening, AK Khan said that despite several attempts made by some unsocial elements the citizens ensured that the festival is celebrated with peace and communal harmony. He said that the police have identified the origins of some telephone calls and SMSs which were circulated to spread panic among the people. He said that all rumour mongers would soon be behind the bars.
The City Police Commissioner informed that over 500 people were taken into preventive custody and several suspected personalities were ‘shadowed’ by policemen in mufti to keep a watch on their movements. However, he thanked the general public and media for their cooperation in maintaining the law and order. Unlike past, this year the City Police relied more on two wheelers and auto-rickshaws for fast movement.
AK Khan said that as many as 2500 wire-less sets were used for effective communication and the entire procession was recorded using 800 video cameras. Besides the deployment of over 25,000 security personnel, as many 75 bomb disposal teams were also deployed at strategic locations.
The Police Commissioner thanked the DGP V Dinesh Reddy and State Administration for extending full support in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the festival.
