Police clueless to what drove NRI to kill wife, himself

Ludhiana, June 15: There has been no headway in the gory incident at Jaspal Bangar village where an NRI shot dead his wife and then killed himself with his licensed single barrel rifle in the wee hours of Saturday.

The post mortem on the bodies of the deceased NRI, Sardool Singh (65) and his wife Paramjit Kaur (62) was conducted at the Civil Hospital and then their bodies were handed over to their relatives for cremation.

Talking to Newsline, Superintendent of Police (SP) Snehdeep Sharma, said, “At this moment it cannot be ascertained what drove the NRI to take this extereme step. Though there is no breakthrough in this case so far, we are investigating the matter from all the angles.”

The SP said that the post mortem report had confirmed that the NRI couple died of gunshot injuries.

It was on Saturday early morning when NRI Sardool Singh had shot dead his wife and later had killed himself with his rifle in the nearby Jaspal Bangar village under the jurisdiction of Shimlapuri police station. The NRI couple had come back from Canada to their village on May 13, the polling day for the Lok Sabha elections.

While three children (two sons and a daughter) of the NRI couple are settled in Canada, their fourth daughter Pritpal Kaur has been living at the NRI couple’s house in Jaspal Bangar. Pritpal Kaur is married to an armyman and she along with her teenaged son Karampreet Singh, is living at her parents house while they were in Canada.

It was Pritpal Kaur who had heard the noise of bullets in the early morning on Saturday. When she along with her son Karanpreet Singh and another relative Rajinder Singh went to the room where the old couple was sleeping, they found the room bolted from inside.

When they broke open the door of the room, they were shocked to see the gory deaths of the couple. The heads of both the deceased persons were badly blown into pieces due to the velocity of the bullets.
