Hyderabad, December 31: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) R R Girish Kumar today said the police was closely watching the movements of Naxalites in the border areas as there were reports of their resurfacing in the State.
Addressing the press with Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A K Khan here, the DGP said police arrested 326 Maoists this year as against 462 last year. He said 91 extremists surrendered before the police and 81 arms recovered from them.
The incidents of extremist violence had come down from 96 cases last year to 56 this year while 16 extremists were killed in exchange of fire. However, no attacks were reported on railway stations this year.
In inter-state joint operation involving AP and Jharkhand Police on October 11 this year, Narla Ravi Sharma alias Gopal, Member and Incharge of Military affairs of Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee and his wife Narla Anuradha alias Rajitha of the same Committee and member of Central Mahila Sub-Committee of CPI Maoists were arrested in Jharkhand.
The DGP said Naxals murdered 14 people as against 37 last year and were involved in 10 arson cases. There were 13 cases of exchange of fire between Naxalites and police in which 174 weapons and explosives were recovered.
