The police have made elaborate security arrangements all over the Telangana region, especially in the twin cities, in connection with the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day celebrations on Thursday to prevent any disturbance by the T-agitators.
The TRS and the TJAC have called upon the people in the region to observe November 1 as “ Telangana betrayal day” and boycott all official functions. They had also appealed to the Telangana ministers to boycott hoisting of flags in their respective districts in connection with the celebrations.
Keeping in view the boycott call given by the Telangana protagonists, the Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in a move to nip in the bud any law and order situation during the state formation d ay celebrations has permitted the Collectors to preside over and hoist the national flag in the official functions in their respective districts.
The police authorities to abort any attempts by the Telangana agitators to disturb the official functions in the district headquarters and the state capital have taken adequate measures to ensure no untoward incident takes place on the occasion. As if to prove the apprehensions of the police about imminent trouble during the celebrations, students organized a dharna before the Secretariat and attempted to gate crash inside demanding boycott of tomorrow’s official function. They were chased away and arrested.
Meanwhile the Minister for Labour, Mr. Danam Nagender, who hails from the city, made it amply clear that he would take part in the official function and nobody dare try to prevent him. He lambasted the TRS President Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao for giving the boycott call and wondered whether he had not thought of Telanganan when he had himself hoisted the national flags as a minister in the past. He also appealed to all the ministers from the region to take part in the official functions.
Mr. Nagender further pointed out that Mr. Rahul Gandhi was also keenly interested in resolving the Telangana issue at the earliest and was working in that direction. He said a majority of the youth in the state are wanting to see Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister after the 2014 elections. (NSS)
