Hyderabad, May 19: The Hyderabad especially remained peaceful on Wednesday amidst heightened security arrangements by the city police in the backdrop of the fourth anniversary of bomb blast in Mecca Masjid.
The Mecca Masjid, inside which an improvised explosive device was detonated on May 18, 2007, and the surrounding localities in the old city, remained normal with tourists visiting the historic Charminar.
However the Police changed its tactics for security arrangements and instead of posting pickets in the sensitive the police increased patrolling in old city and deployed armed policemen at vulnerable places.
No processions were taken out as the Commissioner Police Hyderabad has imposed prohibitory orders across the city. The government made elaborate security arrangements a few days ahead of Mecca Masjid blast anniversary, as a terror operative Viqar Ahmed carried out attacks on policemen protesting the police firing on the unarmed Muslims.
On May 14 last year, Viqaruddin shot dead an unarmed police constable deployed for security at Shahalibanda in old city as Mecca Masjid blast anniversary was approaching. Earlier, on May 18, 2009 also Viqaruddin attacked a police picket on Falaknuma main road killing a home guard and critically injuring a constable.
