Police bust hawala racket, seize Rs 2 crore

The Task Force busted a gang of four and seized Rs 2 crore on charges of illegal money transfer (hawala) on Thursday.

According to police, the accused were identified as Darshan Turkhiya, 23, salesman and resident of Kachiguda, Piyush Azmeera, 51, businessman and resident of Mumbai, Ramesh Chand Goyal, 60, private employee and resident of Chattisgarh, Madhava Ram, 69, general manager at Bhilai Engineering Corporation, Chattisgarh.

On credible information, Darshan Turkhiya and Piyush Azmeera were intercepted at Chermas Abids Road, while carrying an amount of Rs 89,87,500 without any valid documents in their car. On enquiry, they informed the police that they handed over Rs 1.2 crore to Ramesh Chand Goyal and Madhava Ram, who were later apprehended at Golconda hotel, Masab Tank, along with the cash.

The origin of the hawala amount is believed to be from Mumbai or Delhi. The police also seized seven cell phones and handed over the cash to Income Tax Department for further investigation. (INN)
