Police brutality on innocents

Hyderabad, December 08: Moula Ali had nothing to do with the protests for a separate Telangana neither was he in any way linked to the Osmania University. He is mentally challenged and therefore the residents of Manikeshwar Nagar would ignore him.

But on Monday, he suddenly became a ‘hero’. While no one dared raise the slogan ‘Jai Telangana’ in the presence of large contingent of police, it was Moula Ali who went on raising the slogan as he was in the habit of picking up whatever people around him would say.

The result: A group of policemen thrashed him mercilessly, without realising that he was mentally unsound. Yet, Moula Ali did not stop and he went on raising the slogan further inviting the wrath of the personnel.

“Moula Ali just picks up what ever others say because is not mentally stable. Therefore, he went on repeating the slogan. Though the policemen pounced on him and began thrashing him, he did not run away in panic. He was beaten repeatedly,” agitated locals told Expresso.

Moula Ali (30) resides in Manikeshwar Nagar. After

the incident, he is not to be seen in the locality which is now worrying the locals.

“So brutal were the policemen at that time that there was no way we could have told them that Moula Ali was mentally unstable. We just remained mute spectators while the poor man was being thrashed,” they admitted.

In fact, most of the people who became victims of police brutality were innocent. With the news spreading fast about the lathicharge, many came out to see what was happening and in the process got beaten up.

Similarly, Rahul, an Intermediate student who has been suffering with Chikungunya from the last three days, came out of his house just to see what was happening. Within minutes he was chased, pushed down and beaten up like a dog. Rahul was shifted to the hospital and his condition is not known.

T Rajeshwar, an employee of Osmania University, was eating along with his father Raja Narasaiah when the disturbance started. Rajeshwar came out on hearing the commotion. After seeing the police ruthlessly beating the locals, Rajeshwar went back inside but a police personal thought he was also a student. They barged into his house and thrashed him.

Since the OU campus was completely deserted, the university doctor was absent. As such, V Mungesh, a Zoology student, who suffered a leg injury during the police lathicharge at B-hostel on November 29, was on his way to a clinic at Manikeshwar Nagar.

The police lathicharge had just begun as he entered the colony. Mungesh ran back in panic and in the process, a glass pierced through his leg. Soon, policemen thrashed him too.

“I repeatedly told the police that I am the son of a police constable. But they did not listen. Now, I cannot walk without someone’s support,” Mungesh said crying in pain.
