Police Book 275 Motorists for Driving Despite Ban

Abu Dhabi, August 10: The intelligence unit of Traffic and Patrols Department, Abu Dhabi Police, have booked 275 motorists who had chalked up 24 black points in the first half of the year for driving in the capital after the withdrawal of their driving licences.

Lt. Colonel Hamd Al Ameri, head of the unit, said 33 motorists who were banned from driving for three months were referred to courts for trial.

He explained that article 50 of Federal Traffic Law No 2 for 1995, stipulates that such offenders could face a jail term of not more than three months and a fine not less than Dh5,000.
