New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a murder convict who was declared a proclaimed offender after jumping parole granted to him by the Delhi High Court in 2008.
Police have arrested 41-year-old Shambhu, a Delhi resident, who did not return to jail after expiry of parole to serve the remaining imprisonment awarded in the murder case.
He was carry a reward of Rs one lakh.
According to the police, Shambhu and his brother Amarnath were arrested and later convicted for murdering a person, who along with the two convicts, was involved in sale of illicit liquor and other criminal activities. They had an old rivalry on the issue of controlling their area of operation.
Ishwar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police of South District, said Shambhu was arrested by the staff of Vasant Kunj police station in south Delhi yesterday when they received information that the accused used to visit his native village in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district.
He was nabbed by the police team when he was about to reach his village.
Shambhu, a school dropout, was previously involved in 20 cases of Excise Act, Arms Act and murder, at Ashok Vihar police station.
Shambhu and his brother were convicted in the murder case in 2004 and awarded life imprisonment by a trial court here.
In 2008, Shambhu was grant parole by the High Court for one month but after completion of the parole, he did not report back and jumped the relief.
Thereafter, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him and in 2010, he was declared a proclaimed offender by the trial court and a separate case was lodged against by the police.
