Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy called on Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday and urged him to provide relief for the drought affected areas of Telangana State.
Pocharam said that the Centre should immediately release Rs. 2,514 crore to help the farmers in 231 drought-hit mandals of Telangana. Speaking to media persons later, he said that the Central Teams have already visited the affected the areas and submitted their report to the Centre. The State Government too has submitted its report seeking relief. He said that the Union Minister has agreed to provide necessary help to Telangana.
The minister said he had also invited Radha Mohan Singh for laying foundation for Horticulture University in the State on January 7. He said Centre’s help has been sought to strengthen Seed Corporation.
Pocharam expressed confidence that the Centre would provide Rs. 3,000 crore financial assistance for the drought affected areas. (INN)
