Pochampally IKAT art mela kick-starts in City

‘Pochampally IKAT art Mela 2017’ a seven-day Hand woven Eco-friendly Handloom Products’ exhibition kickstarted at Uma Ramalingeswara Swamyvari Kalyana Mandapam, Jampet. Former Mayor Veera Raghavamma and her husband Adhi Reddy Apparao, Member A.P. Legislaitive Council, formally inaugurated the mela and Muncipal Corporator Medapati Sharmila Reddy Lighted the traditional Lamp and graced by Bhavani.

           

Speaking on the occasion, Veera Raghavamma and Adhi Reddy said, “It’s nice to see various apparel, particularly Ikat Fabrics, silk and cotton saris, to be showcased for the Handloom Fashion Connoisseurs in City. “Handlooms are part of an age-old Indian tradition – element of Indian culture and rich artistry”, said Sharmila. “We support the artisans and local community, who have been passing on their skills for generations. Promoting creativity and originality, each design is a result of individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and cultures”, said Chikka Krishna, founder-chairman of Pochampally Handloom Park.

           

The Expo will be on till June 28 from 10 am to 8 pm. Exhibiting Exclusive Handloom products like Handmade Bed & Home Linen, Dress Materials, Silk & Cotton Saris in exquisite designs & Contemporary colours by famous designers, skillfully created by world famous Weavers of Pochampally. (NSS)
