Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Saturday condemned the waving of Pakistani flags by supporters of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani at Friday’s rally in Tral, Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the government would ‘handle the situation’ as per the law of the land.
“Of course, it is condemnable. The government has reiterated time and again that there is no place for Pakistan flag s being hoisted, but at the same time, I would hasten to add that the government in the state is capable of handling any situation like this and we expect that they would rise to the occasion,” Singh said.
On being asked about the government’s ‘soft policies’ towards separatists, the minister said the state government had taken action against separatist leader Masarat Alam for a similar provocative action earlier and hoped that they would act in a similar manner this time as well.
“Time and again, this issue has been taken up with the state government leadership and the chief minister as well has conveyed that they are handling the situation as per the law of the land. They have also taken action in some of the recent matter. So, I hope, they would also handle it in the manner which is expected of them,” he added.
Geelani has also demanded that the duration of the Amarnath Yatra be restricted to a month(ANI)
