Chennai, December 23: PMK founder S Ramadoss today urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take steps to ensure postponment of the January 20 by-election to Pennagaram assembly constituency in view of Pongal festival and Tamil New Year’s day.
“Chief Minister should take up this matter with the Election Commission and explain the situation to postpone the election date to February since the fixed date (January 20) would clash with Pongal festival and Tamil new year’s day”, he said in a statment here.
Stating that Election Commission would usually consult the State Government while fixing a date for the by-polls considering all aspects, he said “if it has not consulted, even now it is not too late to change the date”.
It would be difficult for the candidates to conduct election campaign during the festival time,he added.
