PM, Sonia visit: TN bans fishing off Rameswaram coast

Rameswaram (TN), March 12: Fishermen were today asked not to venture into the sea off this island as part of security measures on the eve of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Chennai.

The state coastal security group police said fishermen will not be allowed to go into the sea tonight. Normally, the fishermen put out to sea in nights and return next day.

Singh and Gandhi are arriving on a day’s visit for the inauguration of the new Tamil Nadu assembly complex. Besides, a host of leaders, including union ministers and chief ministers of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, are also expected to attend the function.

Meanwhile, Additional DGP (Coastal Security Group) Lallawm Sanga, Inspector General A Rajasekhar and Coastguard officials held discussions here regarding a plan for a joint action for patrolling.
