New Delhi, Dec 22: As the storm over Telangana statehood issue continued, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday night discussed the ticklish issue with senior party colleagues but no decision was taken.
Group at the Prime Minister’s residence where Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister A K Antony, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, and Sonia’s political secretary Ahmed Patel were present.
Sources said the meeting failed to arrive at a decision on the issue and another round of the Core Group’s meeting is likely on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the Congress top leadership is understood to have taken stock of the situation arising out of the Centre’s decision to create Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana Turmoil
Earlier in the day, a delegation of 10 Congress MPs from non-Telangana regions met the Prime Minister who promised a decision by Tuesday to “bring everything in order” in the state, a senior MP claimed.
