PM responded positively, claims Chiranjeevi

New Delhi, June 10: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reportedly assured Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) delegation that a positive decision would be taken in the Union Cabinet soon on conferring national status for Polavaram project

PRP president K Chiranjeevi and other leaders today called on the Prime Minister in Delhi and stressed the need for early completion of Polavaram and declaring it as a national project.

Speaking to reporters later, Chiranjeevi claimed in New delhi that the Prime Minister assured them that a decision declaring Polavaram as national project would be taken in the Union Cabinet meeting.

“I am very happy that the Prime Minister responded positively,” Chiranjeevi said

“The Prime Minister told us that the Finance Department had raised some doubts on Polavaram. Once the doubts are cleared, the proposal would be placed before the Cabinet,” the PRP chief said.

Though the Prime Minister did not fix any time frame for completion of the project, he did assure the PRP delegation that there would no further delay in completing the project.

When Chiranjeevi explained to him that he had travelled 1,500 km in six coastal districts for the cause, the Prime Minister reportedly said that he had all the information.

Chiranjeevi also requested the Prime Minister to confer national project status on Pranahita-Chevella project for which the latter said that the project was in its initial stage and the government would take a decision later.

The PRP leader also wanted the Centre to consider early completion of Dummugudem project. Chiranjeevi asked the Centre to give the best relief and rehabilitation package to Polavaram oustees.

Expressing serious concern over growing consumption of liquor in the country and particularly in Andhra Pradesh, Chiranjeevi wanted the Prime Minister to take steps for controlling consumption of liquor. Replying to a query, he said his party is yet to take decision on contesting the ensuing by-elections in the Telangana region. He said that there was nothing wrong in supporting Congress in Rajya Sabha polls. He made it clear that his party would have alliance with Congress party in local bodies elections.
