Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated his British counterpart Theresa May over telephone on assumption of her new responsibility. Prime Minister Modi had on July 13 tweeted: “Congratulations to @theresa_may on taking over as the new UK PM. Looking forward to working with her for stronger India-UK ties @Number10gov.”
Conservative Party Theresa May became United Kingdom’s second female Prime Minister, shortly after David Cameron tendered his resignation. Taking over as Prime Minister, May said that the mission of her government is to forge a positive role for UK in the world as it leaves the European Union.
“When we take the big calls, we will not listen to the mighty but you. We will do everything we can to help everyone. We’ll make Britain a country that doesn’t work for privileged few but everyone of us. And together we’ll build a better Britain. When it comes to taxes, we’ll prioritise not the wealthy, but you. When it comes to opportunity, we won’t entrench the advantages of the fortunate few, we will do everything we can to help anybody, whatever your background, to go as far as your talents will take you,” she had said.
