New Delhi: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s three-day visit to India to strengthen business ties was not welcomed by BJP government as PM Modi and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal both did not give Bezos an appointment during his stay.
Jeff Bezos’s offer to invest $1 billion in India was rejected too by the Indian government authorities after a prominent BJP functionary chose to express the ruling saffron party’s displeasure with Washington Post, the influential US daily owned by the Amazon boss, TOI reported.
“Mr Jeff Bezos, please tell this to your employees in Washington DC. Otherwise, your charm offensive is likely to be a waste of money,” tweeted Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of BJP’s foreign cell.
A 2017-18 report reveals the unemployment rate in India is 6.1%, a four-decade high since demonetization in 2016.
When approached Chauthaiwale to comment on his tweet, he expressed his displeasure over the anti-Modi stand.
“I am not against Amazon. In fact, I am a regular customer of Amazon. But I am certainly against the one-sided, biased, agenda-driven anti-Modi editorial position of Washington Post,” he said.
