PM Modi receives warm welcome in historic Xi’an

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday received an enthusiastic welcome on his arrival in Xi’an.
Clad in an orange kurta, a Nehru jacket and an orange scarf, the Prime Minister was greeted with a traditional Chinese dance at the airport while he waved at the performers.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup shared the information via Twitter.

“Ni Hao!. PM @narendramodi arrives in the historic city of Xi’an, on the first leg of his China visit,” he wrote.

“Not an ordinary city. Not an ordinary welcome. PM @narendramodi being greeted at Xi’an airport,” he added, also posting pictures of the welcome accorded to the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Modi, who is on the first leg of his three-nation tour of China, Mongolia and South Korea, began his visit to the People’s Republic by landing in Xi’an, the hometown of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In Xi’an, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with President Xi. He will also visit the Terracotta Army museum, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and other attractions across the city. He will also be accorded a traditional Tang Dynasty welcome ceremony, before departing for Beijing at night.

In Beijing, Prime Minister Modi will be accorded with an official welcome ceremony on Friday, before holding talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. He is also expected to sign a number of agreements with China, before both leaders will make statements to the press. He is also expected to visit the Tsinghua University in the city, before witnessing a yoga-taichi joint event with Premier Li. He will depart for Shanghai, the final destination in China, later in the day.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi will hold a meeting with Chinese CEOs, before attending an India-China business forum. He will also visit the Fudan University in the city. The Prime Minister will then attend a reception hosted by the Indian community in the city, before departing for the second leg of his tour, Mongolia. (ANI)
