Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who met Delhi Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal here on Thursday, will not be attending the latter’s oath taking ceremony on February 14.
“We had a good talk with the Prime Minister. We told him that there is a full majority government at the Centre and in Delhi and that this should be seen as a golden opportunity. We also mentioned the full statehood issue for Delhi, and the Prime Minister said he will think about this. Unfortunately, Prime Minister Modi will not be able to attend Arvindji’s oath taking ceremony,” said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia.
Kejriwal, who met Prime Minister Modi for about 15 minutes this morning and invited him to his swearing-in ceremony at the Ramlila Maidan, had met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday.
Kejriwal’s party, AAP, made a clean sweep of the Delhi assembly polls yesterday, winning 67 of the 70 seats on offer and decimated rivals BJP and Congress.
Kejriwal had earlier met Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung at the latter’s official residence and staked a claim to form the government in the national capital.
Jung will now send the report regarding the matter to President Pranab Mukherjee, clearing the way for Kejriwal to go ahead with plans for government formation.
