PM Modi for modernizing agricultural practices

New Delhi: Asserting that efforts are being made on ushering a second green revolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for modernizing the agricultural practices.

Prime Minister Modi, who inaugurated the ‘Krishi Unnati Mela’, talked about soil health card initiative and the benefits that the farmers would have through the same.

“Transformation in India will come from villages through the farmers. It is important to modernise the agricultural practices and use more technology. This mela is an attempt to help in the same,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi said efforts are being focused on ushering a second green revolution from the eastern parts of India and to enhance the rural economy.

“First green revolution took place at places with good water supply but the second green revolution has to be powered by technology, modernization. First green revolution was centered around the western and northern parts. Now, the second green revolution has to come from the east. Our efforts are focused on ushering a second green revolution from the eastern parts of India,” he added.

The Prime Minister further said that purchasing power has to increase which is only possible when the village economy is strengthened.

“The Budget this year has been widely appreciated and this is because this is a budget for the poor, the villages and the farmers. By the time we reach 75 years of independence, can we double the income of farmers? If we work together we can make it possible,” said Prime Minister Modi.

Emphasizing on the methods to minimize the use of water, the Prime Minister said initiatives must be taken to save and make optimum use of water through drip irrigation and other mediums to improve our agriculture.

“Let us think about how to save water this summer. Similarly, proper methods of irrigation are vital. Water is god’s gift to us. We should not waste even one drop,” he added.

Appreciating the state of Sikkim for adopting organic farming, he said the time has come to give impetus to value addition and added that food processing would increase the income of farmers. (ANI)
