New Delhi [India]: Asserting to carry forward the war against corruption and black money, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that his government would soon operationalise a strict law to deal effectively with ‘benami’ properties.
In the 27th edition of his ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme, Prime Minister Modi said that his government has revived the Benami Property legislation giving it more teeth to deal with the menace.
He said the law, which was kept on back-burner since 1988, will be implemented stringently in the coming days.
Defending the frequent changes in the rule of demonetisation, Prime Minister Modi said these have been done to reduce problems of the people and defeat forces trying to thwart his government’s fight against black money and corruption.
“I assure you that this is not the end. This is just the beginning in our fight against corruption. We have to win this war against corruption and black money. There is no question of stopping or going back in this fight,” he said.
Recalling his November 8 address to the nation while announcing demonetisation, Prime Minister Modi said, “Those who had been indulging in dishonesty and corrupt means for seventy years are trying to discover new ways to defeat government’s move.”
The Prime Minister also lamented the logjam in Parliament that evoked displeasure from President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Mohammed Hamid Ansari, saying he wanted a good discussion on this campaign as well as on political funding had both Houses run properly.
On day to day searches against black money hoarders, the Prime Minister said it is becoming possible because of public feedback.
