PM Modi inaugurates ‘Sanskriti’ festival in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the five-day cultural festival ‘Sanskriti’ here. The festival aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of India through performances of music, dance, drama, poetry, screenings of films on cultural themes, exhibitions of art and literary works.

Also present for the occasion were Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge), Tourism (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma and Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sharma said that Varanasi is an important centre of culture and history, and is one of the favourite destinations for foreign tourists. He further stated that taking up the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ at tourist spot will boost India’s tourism.

Dr Sharma also urged Irani to help promote Indian culture among the youth by making tours of heritage spots a part of their education. (ANI)
