New Delhi: Amidst celebrations of historic victory of BJP in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, party resident Amit Shah on Saturday announced that the government will waive off farmer loans in UP in its first cabinet meeting as promised. Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-poor policies for the unprecedented mandate the party has received in state polls, especially in UP, Shah said that the party will keep all its promises.
Meanwhile, an overjoyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as “very humbling and overwhelming” the poll victories that the BJP got in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and thanked people for “continued faith and support”. “Am overjoyed that BJP has received unprecedented support from all sections of society. Huge support from the youth is gladdening,” Modi said while commenting on the poll results in a series of tweets.
“Gratitude to the people of India for the continued faith, support and affection for the BJP. This is very humbling & overwhelming,” he said. He said, “Every moment of our time, everything we do is for welfare & wellbeing of the people of India. We believe in the power of 125 crore Indians.”
He saluted the hardwork of BJP workers, saying “They have tirelessly worked hard at the grassroots level & won the confidence of the people.”
In another tweet, Modi said, “Congratulations to @AmitShah, party office bearers & state units for their exemplary work in taking the party to new heights.” Thanking people of UP, he said “This historic victory of BJP is for development and good governance.” Modi, who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha, said, “As an MP from Kashi, I am overwhelmed by the strong faith and love showered by the people there on me. I bow to the people of Kashi.”
Describing victory in Uttarakhand as “special”, the Prime Minister said, “I assure people of the state that BJP will serve them with dedication.” He also thanked the people of Punjab for giving Akali Dal-BJP combine the opportunity to serve for 10 years and “for the support we got in these polls.”
“The poor of the whole nation are with the BJP and we will stand by them. The only factor for this victory is the performance of Modi government focusing on uplifting the poor. The outcome has shown that the faith the poor have reposed in Modi. Even his political rivals will have to admit that Modi has emerged as the most popular leader in the country since independence,” said Shah.
“The developmental schemes launched by BJP government including demonetisation, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in which the government provided cooking gas to poor households and electricity in villages have proved to be the major reason for the party’s win. Also, the PM ensured that every citizen of the country should have a bank account,” he said.
Shah said that double-digit growth of the country can only be achieved with a double-digit growth in Uttar Pradesh. Shah said that people in UP have moved beyond caste, creed and religion. “We all should move past Hindu-Muslim, a voter is a voter. People in UP now want politics of development. People this time supported politics of performance; this historic mandate will take India to a new direction,” said Shah.
Expressing confidence that BJP will form government in Goa and Manipur, where no party has got a clear majority, Shah said the party’s Parliamentary Board will meet on Sunday to finalize the names of chief ministerial nominees.
“We will form government in four states i.e UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, even in Punjab we got a good vote share. Despite defeat in Punjab, the Akali Dal-BJP alliance has got over 30 per cent votes. But, we accept our defeat in Punjab. We will review and look into the reasons that failed us,”said Shah. Reacting to the allegations of BSP supremo Mayawati that Electronic Voting Machines were tempered with in UP, Shah said that he can understand her state of mind. Modi had earlier promised to bring a loan waiver scheme for farmers in UP, if the BJP is voted to power in the assembly elections.
