PM Modi expresses concern over revised Australian visa programme

New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed “grave” concern about the impact of changes in Australian visa programme on skilled Indians.
In a telephonic conversation, both the Prime Ministers agreed that officials of both the countries would remain in contact over the issue.

Prime Minister Turnbull thanked Prime Minister Modi for making his visit to India “highly successful”.

Modi and Turnbull also discussed the follow-up action taken after the visit of the Australian Prime Minister and the steps required to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

Turnbull was on a four-day visit to India from April 9 till April 12, wherein the countries signed six MoUs in different fields including combating terrorism, civil aviation security, sports, health and medicine and satellite navigation.

Meanwhile, the Australian Government has abolished 457 visa programme used mostly by Indians among 95,000 temporary workers in Australia, in an attempt to tackle unemployment in the country. (ANI)
