New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed on finding a durable solution to the political problems in Nepal based on consensus or ‘sahmati’.
Prime Minister Modi put forth his views in this regard during a telephonic conversation with his Nepali counterpart K.P. Sharma Oli.
The Prime Minister also extended his good wishes to the ‘friendly people of Nepal for the New Year 2016’, said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Madhesis, who share a strong cultural and family bonds with Indians, have imposed a general strike in southern Nepal, thereby causing shortage of fuel and other essential goods in the country.
Madhesi leaders have submitted an 11-point demand to the Nepal Government. Their demands include re-demarcation of the provinces, fixing of electoral constituencies on the basis of population and proportional representation. (ANI)
