The Congress party on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of only selling dreams but taking no action, urging him to speak out on the Lalit Modi scandal.
“The Prime Minister says that his government is running: yes it is running to the US, South Korea, China, Nepal and Bangladesh, but the common man is still crawling. Prime Minister Modi believes in only selling dreams but not in taking action. We are disappointed that he did not speak about Lalit Modi the Mann Ki Baat programme,” Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said.
“Prime Minister Modi identifies himself as a world leader and talks about the world, but did he write a letter to bring Lalit Modi back to India? The biggest promise he made was to bring back black money to India… we request him to keep his promise,” he added.
The Congress leader further warned that keeping mum on essential issues might cost Prime Minister Modi his post.
“Should Prime Minister keep silent like he has been for past few weeks, a time will come when people will start asking him for his own resignation,” he said.
The BJP, which has been defending External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj despite opposition demands that she be sacked for helping Lalit Modi, was hit with another worry last week when the former IPL boss claimed that Raje secretly supported his immigration plea in Britain.
The Congress has mounted pressure on Raje after the emergence of a letter reportedly carrying her signature, in which she backs Lalit Modi’s application in the UK.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde is at the centre of a Rs 206 crore scale, while a Delhi court agreed to hear a complaint against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani over her educational qualifications. (ANI)
