Acid attack victim undergoes surgery after 18 years: DCW

New Delhi, Aug 20: An acid attack victim, who was brutally attacked 18 years ago, underwent free surgery at a private hospital here on Wednesday, Delhi Commission of Women Chief Swati Maliwal said.

“DCW worked with Delhi Health Minister, free surgery done today in best pvt hospital for an acid attack victim suffering for past 18 years,” Maliwal said in a tweet, after visiting the victim.

In a major relief to acid attack victims, the Delhi government had earlier this month announced that they will be provided with free medical treatment at all hospitals in Delhi, including the private ones.

The Supreme Court had in April this year directed private hospitals to provide free treatment, including specialized surgeries, to acid attack victims and asked government authorities to take action against them if they fail to comply with its order.
