PM to meet Plan panel; economy, drought on agenda

New Delhi, September 01: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet Planning Commission on Tuesday. In a note prepared ahead of the full meet, panel said it expects the economy to grow 6.3 per cent in the year to March 2010 and at a faster pace in the following years, it said in a background paper which will be presented in a meeting with the Prime Minister.

The panel expects 8 per cent economic growth in fiscal year 2010/11 and 9 per cent in 2011/12, it added.

“Global financial markets are recovering faster than global trade and the fact that India is perceived well as an investment destination is an important positive factor…it is important to ensure that investor perceptions, which are favourable at present, remain so,” the Commission had said in note on Monday.

In the current fiscal year, it sees farm growth down 2.5 per cent with foodgrain output down 18 million tonnes, industry growth at 7.8 per cent and services growth at 8.2 per cent.
