PM to interact with farmers via webcast on Sep 26

Shimla:Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with farmers of five states through webcast on Monday.

The Prime Minister will hold live telecast discussions with farmers from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

“The Prime Minister will hold almost an hour long interaction session with farmers through live telecast from Hyderabad, Cuddalore, Jammu, Jorhat and Palampur and also release certain verities of flowers and other crops which can enhance the income of small and marginal farmers,” said Dr Sanjay Kumar, the Director of Institute of Himalayan Bio-Resource Technology, Palampur.

The first interaction will be with two farmers from Hyderabad. He will be presented with a new and highly productive turmeric variety named Pitamber, and plants of the same will be gifted to two farmers at Hyderabad.

At Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, a variety of Vetiver will be released and the Prime Minister will be presented plants of this aromatic crop in Delhi.

Modi will also release the rose scented variety of Geranium flower.

While prime minister will be releasing the two verities of Calla Lilly and Gerbera, ornamental flowers and the same will be presented to two farmers at CSIR-IHBT Palampur.

Also, the North East Institute of Science and Technology is getting two verities of Citranella and Lemon Grass released on this day. Oil is extracted from these two aromatic plants which is widely used in perfume industry.

Farmers will discuss with Modi difficulties faced by small and marginal farmers of the area and how the government can help in mitigating them, Sanjay Kumar said.
