Rishikesh :Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the new international airport terminal in Chandigarh.
In Chandigarh, he inaugurated the new airport terminal, a modern integrated ‘glass and steel’ building which is equipped with modern state-of-the-art equipment and passenger facilities.
The Rs 485-crore airport project will be operated and maintained by Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL). It is a joint venture of Airports Authority of India (AAI), governments of Punjab and Haryana.
In this JV, AAI has 51 per cent stake while Punjab and Haryana have 24.5 per cent equity each.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Bansal was taken into custody for showing black flags to PM in Mohali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a whirlwind tour of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand today, addressing two political meetings and attending some other events.
The first engagement will be an address at Sarsawa near Saharanpur in western Uttar Pradesh, official sources said.
The Prime Minister will also attend the 34th Convocation Ceremony of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, a PMO statement said.
Modi will also inaugurate a new housing scheme and address a public meeting at Sector-25 in Chandigarh, it added.
Subsequently, Modi will travel to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand where he will have one more political meeting, sources said.
In Rishikesh, he will also visit Swami Dayanand Saraswati Ashram and spend some time with Swami Dayanand Giri who is not keeping well.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place here ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
The prime minister will visit Swami Dayanand’s ashram today and 12 companies of the PAC and 20 senior police officials at different levels of security have been deployed.
The administration is making sure everything is in place, DGP B S Sidhu said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit Swami Dayanand Giri at his ashram.
“The felicitation ceremony is being held on a short notice but we are sure people in large numbers will turn up at the venue to see the Prime Minister,” state BJP general secretary Naresh Bansal who had come to asses the preparations on behalf of the party said.
