PM to inaugurate new CIC building tomorrow

New Delhi: A new mobile application to monitor progress of complaints and appeals at the Central Information Commission will be launched tomorrow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will also inaugurate a new building for the transparency panel.

The new building of the commission is spread in a plot of 4,653 sq mtrs and has a green area of 2,879 sq mtrs in Munirka. It will house the offices of all the information commissioners.

The commission was operating from two locations which were nearly five kilometers apart.

The Chief Information Commissioner used to sit at the August Kranti Bhavan along with some commissioners while some commissioners used to sit in old JNU campus building.

The highest appellate authority in RTI matters, which has a pendency of 24,370 cases and complaints even after clearing 17,733 such cases in a drive, needed a spacious and technologically equipped building to carry on with its work.

Built at the cost of Rs 66 crore, the building was completed in four months in November 2017, ahead of its completion schedule of March 31 by the NBCC.

The prime minister will inaugurate the five-storeyed building tomorrow at an event in the evening.

He will also launch a mobile application, compatible with Android and iOS, through which people can access the web site of the commission.

The application will bring to the mobile–the online filing of Second appeals and complaints, checking the cause list, status of file, downloading hearing notices etc.
