PM congratulates Cameron; invites him to visit India

New Delhi, May 12: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated David Cameron, the new British Premier and invited the Conservative leader to visit India.

Singh, during a 10-minute telephone call, extended his warm greetings to Cameron on assumption of office and discussed a number of issues, including the world economy.

He also wrote a letter to Cameron recalling his September 2006 visit to India and invited him to make an official visit at his convenience.

“Please, accept my heartiest felicitations and congratulations on your assumption of the office of the prime minister of the United Kingdom.

“The elections in the United Kingdom and your stewardship of the Conservative Party reflect the best traditions of parliamentary democracy. I wish you the very best in your leadership in the years ahead,” Singh said in the letter.
