New Delhi, July 23: The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will chair a commission to be set up for empowerment of women in the country.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development will act as the nodal ministry for this new commission which will have Planning Commission Chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia as the Deputy Chairperson.
“Work is on in the ministry for the setting up of this commission,” Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath said replying to a debate on demand for grants for the WCD ministry.
Tirath said though the Government has already sanctioned a large number of the anganwadi centres, state governments were not sending letters to her ministry as a result of which the Centre was not able to set them up.
