Purulia: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in the U.S. to attend the fourth Nuclear Security Summit from March 31 to April 1, said the Central Government should extend all helps required by the Bengal government.
“I received a telephone call from the Prime Minister from the U.S.. He expressed grief over the killing of people in the Kolkata bridge collapse and sought details of measures taken. I informed him in detail about the same,” said Rajnath.
The prime Minister said the Central Government should extend all helps required by the Bengal government. I am trying to get complete information so that all helps could be extended, though I am in regular touch with NDRF officials,” he said.
“The bridge collapse claimed several lives and many people are buried alive under debris. As soon as I come to know about the incident, I immediately spoke to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General O. P. Singh,” Rajnath added.
The Home Minister also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged that the collapse of a portion of an under-construction flyover in North Kolkata that claimed 14 lives was a clear case of corruption, and there should be an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“This is a clear case of corruption, and there should be a CBI inquiry into this,” Naqvi, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, told ANI. (ANI)
