TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged hat Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had abetted the plunder of coal from mines of the country.
Talking to the media here on Tuesday, the TDP chief said it was shameful that the Prime Minister himself was involved in the coal scam. Charging the UPA government with burying itself deep in corruption, Naidu has reminded that the government has spent money to buy MPs to its side, to survive the no-trust motion on the agreement with the USA on atomic cooperation.
Naidu has faulted the Prime Minister for stating that the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on coal exploitation was wrong. Stating that it was ridiculous that the Prime Minister was finding fault with a constitutional authority, Naidu said the UPA government had no right to continue in power. He has alleged that the government was using the mineral reserves as well as Special Economic Zones to plunder national wealth. He said the government was not even in a position to state how much money was siphoned away to foreign countries.
Demanding a comprehensive investigation into CAG report, Naidu said the Prime Minister should resign, owning responsibility for the scam. He lamented that the government had stooped down to the level of weakening even constitutional agencies.
He alleged that the Prime Minister and the government were trying to escape responsibility by finding fault with the CAG report. He said it was unfortunate that the PM chose to state that Opposition ruled States had opposed competitive bidding. He questioned how a person of the stature of the Prime Minister of country was expressing helplessness in the matter. He said every citizen owed responsibility to save the natural wealth of the nation. He also said that the power sector was in a deep crisis.
Replying to a question, Naidu said it was not proper on the part of Anna Hazare to launch a political party.
