Hyderabad, October 12: A software engineer from the city, who was on a weekend pleasure trip to a forest area, died when his sports bike rammed an RTC bus in Nizamabad today.
The bus was completely gutted after its diesel tank caught fire under the impact of the accident. No one was injured as the bus crew and the 40-odd passengers managed to alight before fire engulfed the vehicle.
Nizamabad district police said the biker, Krishna Chaitanya (28), was working as a software engineer at Cystel Computers here. He hailed from Krishnapalle, near Tirupati, in Chittoor district and was residing in Sai Nagar Colony here.
Chaitanya, along with five of his friends, was on his way to the Pocharam forest area to spend the weekend. “Krishna Chaitanya was riding his Suzuki sports bike and reached the outskirts of Bhiknoor after overtaking his friends who stopped at Ramayampet to have breakfast. The friends, who were left behind, called him up and asked him to join them for breakfast,’’ Bhiknoor sub-inspector of police Srinath Reddy said.
Chaitanya started driving back to reach his friends when he rammed an RTC bus, belonging to the Armoor depot, coming from Hyderabad. “The bus dragged the bike for a few feet and the sparks emanating from the friction torched the diesel tank of the bus,’’ Srinath Reddy said, adding that both the Rs 11-lakh sports bike and the RTC bus were gutted. In the meanwhile, all the 40-odd bus passengers and crew got down and ran for safety.
“No bus passenger was injured but Krishna Chaitanya died instantly due to the severe injuries on his head and his private parts,’’
